No Freedom Under RMA Mrs Shipley!

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

No Freedom Under RMA Mrs Shipley!

In a strongly worded attack on the "hypocritical" leader of the opposition, Libertarianz leader Peter Cresswell slammed Jenny Shipley, who said yesterday in parliament that she stands 'with the United States to ensure freedom is not threatened.' "If only this woman was believable!" said Cresswell,

who suggested "as she and the slippery Nick Smith travel the country peddling their cosmetic changes to the RMA they might reflect that - far from defending freedom - their party has done more to attack New Zealanders freedom in the past decade than any other."

"The bulwark of freedom is property rights," points out Cresswell, "and protection of property rights have never been at a lower point in this country - and the National Party must take responsibility for that. It nauseates me to see those responsible for violating New Zealanders' freedom for a decade now posturing as supporters of freedom. Nothing could be further from the truth!"

Cresswell suggests a reality check for National MPs, and for the few remaining National Party supporters. "As they blather about freedom in parliament, they might reflect that their party introduced the Resource Management Act, and watched happily as for nine years it empowered the worst violations of property rights since the war," says Cresswell. "As they strut about giving examples of 'where the RMA has gone wrong,' they might reflect that National's slimy Nick Smith introduced the even more draconian Hauraki Gulf Marine Park legislation (HGMPA), about which Whitianga people already know the dangers - and they might reflect that all the RMA abuses National highlights occurred under their own watch - AND WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN HELPED AT ALL BY ANY OF THE TINKERING THEY NOW PROPOSE!"

"These two hypocrites - Shipley and Smith - insult the intelligence of good New Zealanders, who by now realise that the RMA must be scrapped if they are to win back any part of their freedom and their property rights," says Cresswell. "When Shipley and Smith say they want to "fix" the RMA and can offer only more bloody tinkering we must all identify them for the lying hypocritical mediocrities they are."

"These cheerleaders for their own acts, the RMA and for the HGMPA, must be given the message: 'Only a stake through the heart of these Acts is enough!' Anything less," says Cresswell, "is an insult to the freedom they claim to stand for."

Some questions about the RMA that Smith and Shipley might like to answer:

a.. This is the tenth anniversary of the RMA that YOUR party brought in. You had nine years to amend the bloody thing. Why is it that you only began this work seven months ago? a.. Isn't it true that the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park Act is even worse than the RMA? And that you Mr Smith wrote the original bill yourself - and that there is no substantial difference between you version and what Sandra Lee instituted? a.. Isn't it true that this campaign is just as much a smokescreen as Simon Upton's proposed - but never instituted - tinkering three years ago? That the RMA tramples all over property rights, and none of your proposed 'tweaks' will do anything to change that. a.. Isn't it true that in 500 odd pages of your RMA that property rights are not mentioned once? And that your proposed tinkering will not change that at all? a.. Isn't it true that your RMA is now an enormous gravy train for consultants, for lawyers and for anybody of slightly darker hue?. Isn't it true that your changes won't change that AT ALL and in many cases will just make it worse? a.. I put it to you that your changes are only cosmetic posturing pretending to be substantive reform in order to try and win back power by pulling the wool over the eyes of your supporters - all of whom know the RMA must go! Why don't you take a decent look at your party's constitution, and learn about the 'maximum freedom and avoidance of unnecessary controls' that you claim to stand for - and then ask yourself how far away you are from that - you power-hungry bastards? a.. Isn't it true that common law has over seven hundred years of success in protecting both property rights AND the environment - and does it without an army of blood-sucking lawyers and consultants weighing down the productive? It has been said that when the productive have to ask permission from the unproductive in order to produce that the culture is stuffed. That has never been truer!

We demand - not more politically correct tinkering - but a simple return to the certainty of common law, and the protection of our property rights.

It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!
