Forest And Bird Mourns The Loss Of Sir Peter Blake

Forest and Bird adds to the tributes to Sir Peter Blake.

"Forest and Bird mourns the death of Sir Peter and sends condolences to his family" said Dr Gerry McSweeney, President of Forest and Bird. "It is a tragedy to lose such a prominent advocate for the environment".

After a distinguished sporting career Sir Peter chose to make a substantial personal contribution to saving the world's environment and was made an environmental ambassador to the United Nations.

"Through his ocean racing he saw the decline in the our environment. He decided to personally make a significant effort to help save the world's environment. We applaud this. His loss is a great loss for the world's environment" said Dr McSweeney.

In one of his last emails before his death, Sir Peter Blake lent his support to Forest and Bird's Marine Reserve campaign. This campaign will be launched at Leigh Marine Reserve on Sunday, 9th December. Forest and Bird will pay respect to Sir Peter by observing a minute's silence at the launch.

"We hope that Sir Peter Blake's work can continue and that his legacy will be a turn around in the state of the global environment and the establishment of a network of marine reserves around New Zealand".
