Tawdry Peters 'without brains or breeding'

Tawdry Peters 'without brains or breeding'

Responding to the weekend’s immigrant-baiting by headline-hogger Winston Peters, Libertarianz spokesman Peter Cresswell described Winston Peters as "Enoch Powell, with neither the brains nor the breeding - and without any sense of regret."

Cresswell observed that "the only 'rivers of blood' that have ever arisen or are ever likely to arise from the free immigration of peaceful people is that caused by the populist hate-mongering fomented by 'gentleman' such as Powell and Peters. Historically," observes Cresswell, "immigrants have built every country in every continent that is worth living in - including this wee country here at the bottom of the South Pacific. Free and open immigration of peaceful people is both practical and principled," he says, "which is no doubt why as a policy it offends the unprincipled Peters."

"Besides the obvious differences in IQ and intellect, Peters and Powell are however utterly different," says Cresswell."Enoch Powell was a scholar of some note, who made his claim reluctantly and who avoided openly racist attacks on individuals. One could also sense that what he said was more in sorrow than in anger. Winston however is no scholar, and in him we see a man for whom even his hate-mongering is dishonest, and is instead simply a reflection of his underlying and cynical opportunism. Such," remarks Cresswell, "has been the hallmark of his entire, tawdry political career."

"In Peters we see Powell with neither the brains nor the breeding; in NZ First we see a party of opportunists, by opportunists and for opportunists - they couldn’t be better suited to each other," concludes Cresswell, who confirms the libertarian position on immigration: "That peaceful people be allowed to cross borders freely."
