Think you know how to make our roads safer? Your idea could save lives, and it could also earn you cash and recognition if you enter the inaugural New Zealand Road Safety Innovation Awards before next week's deadline.

Entries for the first ever national awards programme for breakthroughs in New Zealand road safety close on October 21, but there is still time to enter. Just go to http://www.roadsafetyinnovationawards.org.nz or ring 0800 699 000 for an entry form.

The awards recognise road safety innovations from individuals, organisations and communities, in the following categories: School Road Safety Community Road Safety Corporate Road Safety Vehicle-Based Innovations Road-Based Innovations

The winner in each award category will receive a cash prize of $2,000, with an overall Premier Award winner receiving an additional $3,000 prize. The awards programme is funded by the Road Safety Trust and administered by the Land Transport Safety Authority.

Entries will be judged by an expert panel, with the awards presented at a ceremony to be held in Wellington early in 2004.
