Press Release: Forest And Bird
Response To Claims About High Country Privatisation By Gerry
Eckhoff MP
Mr Eckhoff today released a media statement
about the privatisation of 35km of Lake Wanaka's shore
attacking Forest and Bird. The following statement is
Forest and Bird's response:
"It's unfortunate that Mr
Eckhoff has resorted to distortion in his statement. He
knows full well that the land in question is Crown owned
land that is administered by Land Information New Zealand
(LINZ) on behalf of all New Zealanders," said
Otago/Southland regional field officer Sue Maturin.
"An
opportunity to protect this publicly owned land along 35
kilometres of Wanaka lakeshore for the benefit of all New
Zealanders has been lost as the land is now to be locked up
in private ownership," she said.
