Guns, Rods and Pens Form Alliance

15 July 2004

Guns, Rods and Pens Form Alliance

"An unholy alliance of organisations that would not usually unite together to promote a single issue, should cause the Government to stop and take note", said Beryl Anderson, President, National Council of Women of New Zealand (NCWNZ).

The NCWNZ has joined environmental and outdoor recreational organisations to express concern at the Government's proposed changes to the Resource Management Act.

"This unprecedented coalition of hunters, fishers and environmentalists, should force wider debate of the issues, not just to those who have a vested interest," said Beryl Anderson. "The RMA affects all New Zealanders and as such the implied 'barriers' that the Government has intimated at should be in the public domain for full consultation."

"The NCWNZ has long lobbied for a greater understanding of the RMA.

For example, the proposed changes will not alter the process time of applications. That is an operational issue that needs a co-operative stance between central and local government."
