Appointment Of Director, Treaty Of Waitangi Information Unit

The State Services Commissioner, Mark Prebble, today announced the appointment of Lisa Davies as the Commission's Director, Treaty of Waitangi Information Unit. Lisa Davies is presently Director, Kaipuke Consultants Ltd.

The Treaty of Waitangi Information Unit is tasked by the Government to manage and implement an information programme to increase all New Zealanders' knowledge of the Treaty.

The Treaty of Waitangi information programme has been underway for over a year. The Unit has already implemented a number of initiatives. These include a website, www.treatyofwaitangi.govt.nz , a sponsorship scheme for communities wanting to hold seminars, workshops or hui on the Treaty, supporting work by the Human Rights Commission on human rights and the Treaty, and commissioning a public survey of Treaty awareness.

Mark Prebble says Lisa Davies has a wide knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and has excellent relationship building skills. Her current consulting role specialises in public policy, public management, and research and evaluation services.

Until recently Lisa Davies was a senior public servant, working in a range of roles at Te Puni Kokiri since 1995. From 2001 to March 2004 Lisa Davies was General Manager, State Sector Performance Group at Te Puni Kokiri. Previous roles at Te Puni Kokiri included Director Social Development Directorate from 2000 to 2001. Lisa Davies ' iwi affiliation is Ngati Wai. "She will start as Director on 27 September 2004," Mark Prebble said.
