Industry Training up 11%

"People in industry training are up 11% on the same time last year - good news for reducing skills shortages", said Darel Hall Executive Director of the Industry Training Federation.

"The number in training as at the end of June 2004 was 95,952 compared to 86,227 at the same time in 2003.

"There has been strong growth in training in a range of industries including: building, community support, joinery, dairy and meat processing, crane operations, public sector and seafood.

"Reducing skill shortages so that New Zealand's economic development can maintain momentum is a key priority for industry. The latest figures show that we are still on the right track", said Darel Hall.
