Farmer Cops Trouble

Libertarianz leader Bernard Darnton today congratulated Taranaki farmer Matthew Francis for taking responsibility for his own life. Francis has been the victim of $70,000 worth of stock rustling and has threatened to take matters into his own hands.

"Every law-abiding citizen has the right to defend himself or his property," said Darnton. "My congratulations go to Matthew Francis for his stand."

Police have expressed concern that Matthews wants to take matters into his own hands. "What concerns me," responded Darnton, "is that the Police seem happy to investigate Francis, who's done nothing but protect himself, but are unable to do their real job. Francis wouldn't have needed to go this far if the Police had taken the law into THEIR hands, as they are charged by law to do."

A Libertarianz government would immediately refocus the Police on genuine law enforcement - catching thieves for example - and keep them out of other mischief such as harassing innocent citizens.
