Free Ahmed Zaoui - Public Rally on 2nd
Anniversary of his Detention without Trial
Global Peace and Justice Auckland is organising
a Public Rally outside Mt Eden Prison on Saturday 4th
December at 12noon – the second anniversary of his detention
without trial.
The rally will call for his immediate
release from Mt Eden Prison so that he start a new life as a
genuine refugee in New Zealand along with his wife and
family.
There is no precedent in this country for such a
lengthy and inhumane detention without charge.
As more
and more people get to know Mr Zaoui's story there is
outrage that a man of peace and a victim of persecution has
been subjected to appalling treatment in New Zealand -
including 10 months in solitary confinement.
The Labour
government stands condemned for betraying its own principles
of fair play, and support for human dignity.
The
demonstration will call for Mr Zaoui to be freed immediately
– a move which is within the power of the Labour government.
Mount Eden Prison is New Zealand’s own little slice of
Guantanamo Bay – right in the heart of Auckland.
It’s
time for this shame to end.

Now that he’s back as Foreign Minister, maybe Winston Peters should start reading the MFAT website which is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of how Kiwis alerted the rest of the world to the genocide in Rwanda. How times have changed ...
In 2023, the government is clutching its pearls because senior Labour MP Damien O’Connor has dared suggest that Gaza’s civilian population - already living under apartheid and subjected to sixteen years of an illegal embargo, and now being herded together and slaughtered indiscriminately amid the destruction of their homes, schools, mosques, and hospitals - are also victims of what amounts to genocide. “The Human Rights Commission’s appointment of a second Chief Executive is just the latest example of a taxpayer-funded bureaucracy serving itself at the expense of delivery for New Zealanders,” says ACT MP Todd Stephenson. More
New CTU analysis of the National & ACT coalition agreement has shown the cost of returning interest deductibility to landlords is an extra $900M on top of National’s original proposal.
