Statement on the Christina Bevan moko complaint

Statement on the Christina Bevan moko complaint

The Human Rights Commission held a mediation meeting in Bulls today with Christina Bevan and representatives of the Brooklyne Tearooms.

Ms Bevan complained to the Commission in February this year that she was turned down for employment at the Tearooms in Sanson because of her moko.

During the mediation process both parties acknowledged that the situation had been difficult for them and their families. The mediation meeting had given them the opportunity to share their perspectives on the issue.

They have now resolved the dispute to their satisfaction. The details of the resolution are confidential.

As part of the settlement both parties have agreed to make no further comment to the media.
