New Website Promotes Overseas Enrolments
A new website, http://www.callingkiwis.com, was launched today to encourage New Zealanders living abroad to vote in the 17 September General Election.
The site, which was developed in Sydney by ex-pat Kiwis, links through the the elections website and calls for Kiwis to enrol and vote.
"We might not live in NZ at present, but we care deeply about it's future as many of us plan to return there," said Paul Williams for the group.
The group, which is affiliated to Labour, developed the site to correct the mis-perception that Kiwis abroad couldn't, or shouldn't, vote.
"We've all had other Kiwis tell us that they can't vote or that they shouldn't 'cause they don't get home all that often. They can vote and they damn well should!" said Williams.
"Just pulling on an All Blacks jersey or necking the a handful of pineapple lumps isn't enough. If you care about the country, get engaged - read the papers, read the policies and vote... Labour," he said.
