Labour Weekend crash statistics

The official Labour weekend holiday period begins at 1600 today (Friday 21 October), and ends at 0600 Tuesday 25 October. During Labour weekend 2004 there were four fatal crashes and 83 reported injury crashes. These crashes resulted in five deaths, 30 serious injuries and 106 minor injuries. The five deaths included three drivers and two passengers.

Four of the five deaths, two thirds of the serious injuries and over half the minor injuries resulted from open road crashes. The most commonly cited contributing factors for crashes over Labour weekend 2004 were loss of control (28%), travelling too fast for conditions (26%), alcohol (23%), fatigue (13%) and inattention (13%).
