Air Electronics Operator Master Aircrew Peter Hilliard has achieved a significant milestone by completing 10,000 flying hours. This equates to over 416 days of continuous flying. The milestone was achieved yesterday during an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrol.

As an Air Electronic Operator, Master Aircrew Hilliard monitors the sensory equipment on board the P3 Orions.

The celebrations to mark the milestone with Master Aircrew Hilliard were slightly delayed as the P3 Orion was diverted from its EEZ patrol to assist an aircraft in distress.

The light aircraft, IVO Kaikoura, was suffering severe engine vibrations and a loss of power. The P3 Orion provided search and rescue and communications coverage until the light aircraft was able to land at Kaikoura.

The Air Component Commander, Air Commodore Richard Newlands extended his hardiest congratulations to Master Aircrew Peter Hilliard.

“To achieve such a goal is remarkable by any standards, and in this day and age is a rare event. It marks an extended period of dedication to RNZAF flying duties and the maintenance of flying standards”, says Air Commodore Newlands.
