Exclusion zone around Kotuku

Maritime New Zealand has put a 500 metre radius exclusion zone around the wreck of the fishing vessel Kotuku in the Foveaux Strait under section 59 (a) of the Maritime Transport Act 1994.

Director Russell Kilvington said today the prohibition of access to the accident investigation site was required in order to preserve the wreck as evidence and to prevent tampering or damage of the wreck.

The exclusion zone became effective at 5pm last night, Wednesday 17 May 2006.
