Consultation on fee changes

MEDIA RELEASE 29 June 2006

Consultation on fee changes

The Government is proposing minor technical adjustments to fees for some citizenship services. The proposals will change the fees that apply to some citizenship services and will introduce new fees for other services. There is no proposal to change the application fee for the grant of New Zealand citizenship.

The proposed fees are set to recover the full costs of citizenship services. This is consistent with fees for other similar services the Department of Internal Affairs provides.

There is also a proposal for an additional fee to enable people to request and receive a decorative as well as a plain birth certificate at a reduced price. The standard version and the decorative will be $26 each, but people will be able to get a “package” of a decorative and a plain birth certificate for $39.
