Much more needed to stop the gambling epidemic
Media Release: Tuesday 1st August

“Much more work will be needed to stop the gambling epidemic,” says John Stansfield, CEO of the Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand (PGF).

Mr Stansfield was commenting on a statement by Ministry of Health officials which shows as few as 12% of problem gamblers are getting the help they need.

Mr Stansfield says “A well resourced marketing campaign is essential if we are to avoid a social and economic catastrophe,” says Mr Stansfield.

“The good news is gambling problems can be overcome and seeking help is often the first step,” he says.

“However, it is not all doom and gloom. PGF provide free and confidential services to anyone with – or affected by – problem gambling. All you have to do is call us free on 0800 664 262.”
