NZ First Heading For
Political Suicide by Not Supporting Rates Pegging
Bill.
Campaign Organiser Offers Winston Meeting.
Rates Will Be An Election Issue.
At their caucus yesterday
New Zealand First again considered their attitude to Rodney
Hide’s Rating Cap Bill due for a vote in Parliament next
Wednesday 23rd August.
NZ First MPs are now responding to NoMoreRates supporters emails stating that they will still not support the Bill for a first reading.
In today’s NZ Herald, NZ First local government spokesman Brian Donnelly, described the Bill as ‘dopey’.
However Mr Donnelly must be aware, from the hundreds of emails he, and other MPs have been receiving, that the general public is demanding that the Bill goes to select committee.
In addition Grey Power –supporters of NoMoreRates.com – have been inundating NZ First with resolutions from local Associations demanding NZ First support the Bill.
If NZ First MPs deny these demands they will be committing political suicide.
NoMoreRates.com founder/organiser David Thornton has again emailed NZ First leader Winston Peters asking for a meeting if that will help convince him to change his party’s stance and support the Bill.
David Thornton also advised Mr Peters that the campaign for reform would be a long haul and would make rates a key issue in local elections next year and the general election the following year.
