Army Unimog Accident - Unimog Driver's Details

The driver of the Mercedes Benz UNIMOG involved in last Wednesday's accident in Weld Pass is Private Khan Hogg, 18 years old.

Private Hogg gained his Class Two licence in September 2005 and qualified to drive a UNIMOG in October. His qualifying course required him to spend 30 hours driving light military 4WD vehicles, and then 30 hours of supervised and assessed driving in a UNIMOG.

He had completed an average of 50 hours driving time in the UNIMOG during the ten day exercise in Marlborough prior to the accident occurring.

In his capacity as an Army driver, he was a member of a UNIMOG Platoon, whose role was to transport personnel, stores and equipment in the Platoon's UNIMOG fleet in support of a range of Army activities. Private Hogg drove a UNIMOG in support of the recent Civil Defence emergency in Canterbury.

Private Hogg had a high level of familiarity with the UNIMOG. On a daily basis he drove, maintained, loaded and serviced the vehicle. His driving tasks were varied and included both on and off road travel.

He remains in a stable condition in hospital. His parents are with him.
