Vehicle Accident In Afghanistan

Two Army soldiers have been airlifted to a military hospital in Bagram after sustaining injuries in a vehicle accident that occurred at 4.30pm yesterday (local time). One soldier sustained concussion and lacerations to his forehead and the other has bruising to the vertebrae.

The soldiers, part of New Zealand's Provincial Reconstruction Team based in Bamyan, were travelling as part of a convoy of light 4WD Toyota vehicles undertaking a routine patrol in the Waras District.

Early indications are that the road they were travelling on gave way under the right tyre, causing their vehicle to roll down a 20-meter slope.
