Thailand: Coup, 19 September 2006
There is some risk to your security in Thailand: On 19 September 2006 the Thai military carried out a coup against the Prime Minister and took over key government buildings and the national television station. Tanks have surrounded Government House. A statement was issued stating the armed forces and police were in control of Bangkok and surrounding provinces and an appeal for calm. Martial law has been declared and all troops have been ordered to return to their bases.
If you are in Bangkok at present, we recommend you avoid public gatherings and demonstrations and keep away from key government buildings.
You should monitor the media to keep up to date with the situation and heed any instructions issued by the local authorities.
