NZ Police Remembers Staff Who Have Died

New Zealand Police will join police services throughout Australia and the South Pacific tomorrow to remember staff who have been slain or killed on duty as well as staff who have died over the past year.

The New Zealand Police Remembrance Service is being held at The Royal New Zealand Police College (RNZPC) on Thursday 29 September, 11am-12 noon.

The RNZPC is home to a national memorial to the 23 New Zealand police officers and three traffic officers who have been slain on duty since New Zealand Police was formed in 1886.

Staff being remembered this year include Senior Sergeant Patrick (Paddy) Francis Gerard Darroch (1966 - 2006), whose police career spanned 40 years, and Sergeant Dave Bowman (1991- 2005), who lost his battle to an incurable brain disease in June this year.

Ian Grant, co-founder and CEO of Parents Inc, will be speaking at the memorial service. Ian became a household name fronting the popular television programme 'The Herd' and has authored the New Zealand best seller, Fathers Who Dare Win.

A total of 60 serving and former staff members will be remembered at this year's service.

The Hon Annette King, Commissioner Howard Broad, and Deputy Commissioner Lyn Provost will be present along with High Commissioners from Australia, Fiji and Niue.
