Food bank fill up

With food bank shelves half empty, the past couple of months have seen Downtown Community Ministry clients leave their food bank visit with smaller and smaller food parcels.

Please donate some food to us now and help us ensure that all our clients get a nutritious food parcel next time they come in.

Support Worker Graham Anderson says, "It hasn't been easy making up a food parcel with the 'scraps' left over in the food bank".

He says he's had to ration valuable items containing good sources of vitamins and minerals like tinned fish, vegetables and fruit. The food bank also needs fresh supplies of spaghetti, milk powder and instant noodles.

As for the reasons for the empty shelves, Graham says, "It's often like this a few months out from the next food day appeal, we just get short".

Food bank statistics show the number of food parcels handed out has remained steady all year.

But with the Christmas food appeal still four weeks away Graham is holding his breath that donations tide things over till then.
