13 million 5 cent coins collected for Plunket

ANZ’s “5s for Under Fives” appeal has raised $650,631.90 for Plunket in the past 16 months. That’s the equivalent of 13 million 5 cent coins that will benefit children and young families throughout the country.

Plunket’s New Zealand President, Kaye Crowther, says she is elated at the results of the appeal, and thanks the New Zealanders who supported Plunket by gathering and donating 5 cent coins before their withdrawal from circulation.

“This project was a bright idea that gained tremendous momentum in communities throughout the country. Plunket volunteers worked alongside their local ANZ branches to gather 5 cent coins - all 3.6 tonnes of them.

“The wonderful thing is that all the “5s for Under Fives” money will be used in the community where it was collected, with local families benefiting from an increase in the Plunket services they most need,” says Mrs Crowther.

In Wellington and the Wairarapa, money raised is being used to help fund the Family Centre in Wellington and will enable the Wairarapa Plunket Karitane nurse to provide addition support to families in her community.

In the Waikato, money raised will help fund parent education and in Christchurch, a new Plunket Centre is being built to provide parents with a “one-stop-shop” for Plunket services.

ANZ last week received the Best Cause Sponsor award at the New Zealand Sponsorship Awards for their support of Plunket through “5s for Under Fives”.

“We congratulate them on this achievement and are delighted that ANZ will continue its support of Plunket as a Star Sponsor for the next three years,” says Mrs Crowther.

ANZ will continue to accept donations on behalf of Plunket.
