Christchurch: Speeding Drunk Driver

Incident Type: Speeding Drunk Driver

MEDIA RELEASE:

At 0800 hours this morning, on the Northern Motorway - on the way out of Christchurch, a police Highway Patrol stopped a car travelling at 145 kms. The driver underwent a breath test and blew 880 mgm/l of breath. His vehicle was unlicensed and he had not slept since the previous night.

The driver, a North Canterbury man, was suspended from driving immediately for 28 days due to the speed and alcohol level. He will be appearing in court to face a number of driving charges.

Inspect Derek Erasmus, Canterbury Road Policing Manager says, "He was a crash and death waiting to happen. Another example of people who have been drinking overnight posing significant danger the following morning."

Otherwise, Show Weekend traffic is busy but orderly.
