http://www.police.govt.nz/news/release.html?id=2758

A 21 year old local Wellington man has been arrested and charged with the assault in Te Aro Park on Sunday morning.

The arrested man is due to appear in the Wellington district court at 2.15 today.

He has only been charged with assault at this stage. More serious charges will be laid in due course depending on the outcome of the victims condition.

The 26 year old man who was the victim of the assault is still in the Intensive Care Unit at Wellington Hospital. His condition is critical but stable.

The investigation team is still focused on trying to locate witnesses to the incident and would like anybody in Te Aro Park at the time to contact them.

Sightings of the man arrested for the assault are also sought, especially any of his movements on Saturday night Sunday morning. His name will not be released until the court has had the opportunity to consider name suppression this afternoon.

Any body with information should contact the Operation Dixon investigation team on 04 4963508.
