Support for Exporters Timely says CTU

"Extra assistance for exporters announced today is timely and another step on the way to building a high wage, high skill, high value economy," CTU Economist Peter Conway said.

The government today announced a $33.75 million increase to the Market Development Assistance Scheme, delivered through New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.

"The CTU supports initiatives which can increase value-added exports. In particular, unions are actively involved in the development of industry strategies such as Manufacturing +, the Food and Beverage Task Force, the Forest Industry Development Agenda, and in the clothing and textiles industry".

"We are a small country in a large global economy. Initiatives to develop new markets and add value in existing ones makes a lot of sense. But the CTU will continue to argue for the benefits of trade to be shared among all New Zealanders," Peter Conway said.
