Auckland City Council workers to picket

Auckland City Council workers to picket during strike

PSA members employed by Auckland City Council are holding a picket at Aotea Square from 12:15pm today
.

The picket is part of strike action resulting from the Council's refusal to offer a pay increase in the bargaining for a new collective agreement.

PSA national secretary Richard Wagstaff said members had faced significant increases in the cost of living which must be recognised by their employer agreeing to a fair deal.

"The strike action is a last resort by our members who are frustrated by their employer's refusal to comply with their own policies about pay and treat their staff fairly".

The strike coincides with action being taken by members of the Southern Local Government Officers' Union at the Christchurch City Council who are also on strike tomorrow.

The Public Service Association has over 55,000 members in local and central government, health and community services.

Picket Details PSA members will be waving placards, handing out leaflets and signing a giant postcard to their employer asking for a fair pay rise.

Time and place: Aotea Square, Auckland, from 12:15pm.
