The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) touch rugby teams beat their Anzac colleagues to secure the Trans-Tasman touch trophy for the first time on Sunday.

The NZDF teams showed their sporting prowess by winning all three test matches against visiting Australian Defence Force (ADF) teams. Results of the test were: over 30s men 2-0, open women 3-2 and open men 4-3.

The test, held at Davis Field in Trentham, near Upper Hutt, marked the third time NZDF and ADF teams have met to contest the Trans-Tasman trophy, but the first time the test had been played in New Zealand.

NZDF Touch Chair Major Chris Mitchell said that NZDF increasingly work alongside their Australian counterparts and sporting matches like the test help to foster closer working relations.

Touch rugby is one of 11 sports codes approved by the NZDF for participation and competition at unit and representative level. Other sports include basketball, netball, rugby, golf, hockey, and volleyball.
