Concerted Wage Campaign Justified says CTU
"New Zealand pay rates are still far too low and the CTU supports the EPMU's wages campaign launched today," CTU president Ross Wilson said today.
"Many unions have upcoming collective bargaining across a number of industries, and the EPMU has made a helpful contribution by kick starting the debate on lifting wages in 2007," Ross Wilson said.
"Superannuation will also be a key issue for workers this year. KiwiSaver presents a significant opportunity for both workers and employers and the CTU supports the EPMU, as the largest private sector union, in signalling KiwiSaver contributions as a major bargaining area for the year."
"We need to see wages increasing every year if we are to address both our significant social deficit, but also the structural problem in our economy of low wages, which are on average 30% lower compared with Australia," Ross Wilson said.
