Lame Duck Legacy in Education.
Republic of NZ Party Education spokesperson and Rotorua candidate Mr. Paul Haynes says Trevor Mallard, the former education minister, has left us a lame duck legacy in education.
“Come voting season Mallard and Maharey should get both barrels,” he says.
The Republican was forthright about how ineffective the education ministry had become under Labour,
“After a decade, just look at what this government has brought us to!” he said.
The student loan debacle was turned into a naked bribe by Labour who bought the student vote.
NCEA was launched prematurely, without due diligence. NCEA assessment needs much more rigour with a graded assessment structure as experts advised. Talk to our Australian neighbours about the development of a truly international qualification.
Male teachers have been sexually harassed out of the education system. Where are the male role models at a time when many families are fatherless? This is a double whammy socially and a national shame.
Anomalous intermediate schools still exist. They must become High Schools.
A feminist curriculum and teaching style means boys are treated unfairly.
The Labour penny-pinching has continued with early childhood education.
The Republicans would address the funding shortfall and bring kinder-care to all three year olds, allowing mothers back to work sooner, if that’s what they choose to do.
A modern Republic requires a serious commitment to education; it is the foundation of the next generation. A smart population makes wise choices. Teacher’s salaries are not high enough to attract and the keep good ones, or to encourage acceptance of the challenge and demands of a principals role.
“Time has come to put this lame duck out of its misery.” The Republican said.
Ends.
