Bye Bye Elizabeth R

The Republicans would like Queens Birthday Weekend renamed Constitution Day, in recognition of our yet to come, long overdue constitution, says Party Leader Kerry Bevin.

The Republican Leader commenting on the Queens Birthday said,

"It was time to say Bye Bye Elizabeth R"

He wonders,

"How much longer royalist dinosaurs where going to continue jerking their forelocks to this medieval institution.."

She might be a nice lady, but quite honestly, what relevance is her birthday to NZ.

"Not only was it time to say Bye Bye Elizabeth R, it was time for Kiwis to get over their awkward adolescence, and claim a fuller maturity.

Our identity was now completely separate from a Northern Hemisphere Realm, and while we share a history our futures are likely to be vastly different."

The Republican is aware that some English people live here for years before becoming citizens.

"Do they think kiwis are just colonials", he questioned

What of our flag, he asked?

"Surely the fern on black would be as appropriate as the Red Maple on white that the Canadians have chosen. Do the Canadians have more pride in their piece of dirt they we do in ours, asked Mr Bevin."
