Climate campaigners call for
positive action
Climate change campaign group ClimAction
is calling on local and central
government to put their
money where their mouths are and take practical
action to
stop climate change.
Transport contributes 40 percent of New Zealand’s carbon dioxide pollution.
So ClimAction
argues that millions of dollars ear-marked for
motorways
should be invested in a world-class public
transport system.
“More motorways means more cars, more
congestion and more pollution.
Investing in a free and
frequent public transport system across Auckland
would
not only cut pollution, it would save us all time and
money,” says
spokesperson David Colyer.
To promote
their call for positive action to cut pollution, ClimAction
is
holding a demonstration on July 7.
July 7, is the
day that Al Gore’s Live Earth concerts will raise
awareness
about climate change around the
world.
“Every day we hear more bad news about climate
change. We all know there’s
a problem. It’s time for
positive action.
“ClimAction invites all those concerned
about climate change to join us on
Saturday July 7, 2pm
in Aotea Square,” said Mr
Colyer.
