PSA call for clarity on public servants interests

CTU MEDIA RELEASE
25 July 2007

CTU supports PSA call for clarity on public servant interests

“The CTU supports the call by the PSA for clarification of policy and practice relating to actual and potential conflicts of interest for senior staff in ministries,” CTU president Ross Wilson said today.

The CTU, representing more than 350,000 union members, shares the PSA concern about the handling of the Setchell case and the suggestion by the State Services Commission of a “more formal registration” system.

“The CTU is concerned to ensure that there is a fair process which enables individuals to pursue their careers regardless of their personal relationships.”

“The CTU supports the PSA call for consultation on current and proposed rules and practice. It is in the public interest that there is urgent clarification,” he said.
