Future NZ Pleased At UK Move

Press Release Future NZ.

October 29. 2007

Future NZ co-leader and organisier of the Citiens Initiated Referenda to repeal the Bradford bill, Larry Baldock welcomed the announcement by the UK Government’s Children’s Minister that they would not be banning smacking.

It seems, said Mr Baldock, that the UK Government is prepared to listen to its people instead of the ideaologically driven and misguided lobbyists.

The article in the Daily Telegraph said that the Government's critics called the decision a missed opportunity while opponents of a ban said it was rooted in common sense.

Mr Baldock said he was still confident that the law that had ciminalised good parents here in New Zealand could be repealed. With 213,000 signatures collected for the petition we are determined to ensure that the balance of 87,000 signatures are collected by the deadline of March 1st to ensure a referendum is held in conjunction with the 2008 elections. Plans are well underway for a major inititiative called the ‘Great NZ Table Challenge’ thoughout the month of Novemeber to encourage as many volunteers to man tables for signature collection points outside supremarkets, malls, festivals, and shows up and dowm the country like the Ellerslie Flower show and the Christchurch A&P show.
