Judge's No-Nonsense Approach Wins Support

The Sensible Sentencing Trust is hailing a Judges tough-line as a return to common sense.

In the Napier Court yesterday Judge Tony Adeane made it very clear he would not tolerate any disrespect or disruption in his Court.

When the Judge sent a woman to jail for shoplifting he was abused by her friend yelling out, "You're a f.ing egg." Judge Adeane ordered him arrested and held in custody till later in the day when he was ordered to apologize, at this stage the offender's mother also abused the Judge and she to was arrested and put into custody.

Judge Adeane told the offenders the huge majority were not going to have its environment dictated to by a bunch of clowns.

Both later made sincere apologies and were freed.

Trust spokesman Garth McVicar said it was heartening to see Judges once again taking control of their Court rooms, "Law breakers must be taught that their behaviour will not be accepted and the Courts must be respected."

"We have huge respect for Judge Adeane and believe he will get huge public support for this stand."

"It is about time Judges reclaimed their Court rooms - then maybe law-abiding citizens can reclaim their streets."
