Establishment board for transport agency announced
Former Auckland Regional Transport Authority chair Brian Roche will chair the Establishment Board for the New Zealand Transport Agency, Transport Minister Annette King has announced.
Ms King, who announced the six members of the board today, said the New Zealand Transport Agency will be established through a merger of Land Transport New Zealand and Transit New Zealand, and will commence operating from 1 July 2008.
"The appointees collectively bring expertise in governance (particularly in relation to Land Transport New Zealand and Transit New Zealand), the establishment of major organisations, finance, technical engineering, an understanding of local government and an appreciation of the Government's goals for the transport sector," she said.
The appointees are:
Brian Roche (Wellington), Chair. Mr Roche, an accountant and Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, is an expert in governance, management and operation of the public sector. He has held a number of key government appointments, and was the Establishment Chair of the Auckland Regional Transport Authority.
Paul Bishop (Auckland) is a civil engineer who worked for 17 years with the Manukau City Council. He then spent 12 years in senior management positions with Bitumix Limited and Envirowaste Services Limited. Mr Bishop is a past Chair of the New Zealand Bitumen Contractors' Association (now known as Roading New Zealand). He holds various directorships in relation to Envirowaste Services Limited.
Paul Fitzharris (Picton) has been the Acting Chair of Land Transport New Zealand since 1 March 2007. He has served on the Land Transport New Zealand Board since May 2005. During the latter part of his career with the New Zealand Police, Mr Fitzharris represented the New Zealand Police Department on the National Road Safety Committee.
Bryan Jackson (Waikanae) has been the Acting Chair of Transit New Zealand since 8 March 2007. He was involved in the merger of the Land Transport Safety Authority and Transfund New Zealand and was a member of the Land Transport New Zealand Board. He is the Chair of Vehicle Testing New Zealand and is a past President of the Motor Trade Association. Previously he owned and operated a major motor vehicle dealership.
Garry Moore (Christchurch) is an accountant who has been a member of the Boards of Land Transport New Zealand and Transit New Zealand since 30 April 2007. Mr Moore served two terms as a Councillor on the Christchurch City Council and was Mayor of Christchurch from 1998 to October 2007. While on the Christchurch City Council, he led the restructuring of the Council at both elected and administrative levels.
Alick Shaw (Wellington) served for nine years as a Wellington City Councillor, and was Deputy Mayor from 2001 to 2007. He has directorships on a range of Government, community and trust boards. He has spent six years as a director of the company managing the water infrastructure of both Wellington and Hutt Cities, and is the Foundation Chair of the New Zealand School of Music, a joint venture between Victoria University of Wellington and Massey University.
