The Family Party Submits Formal Registration

Richard Lewis and Paul Adams, the Leader and Deputy Leader of THE FAMILY PARTY, have today sent their documentation to the Electoral Commission to formally register the new party. The application includes the party logo, constitution and evidence of its 500 financial party members.

“This is a very exciting step for The Family Party in formalising our place on New Zealand’s political landscape. Our mission for 2008 is to win over Labour’s traditional support base in Mangere and South Auckland. By winning Mangere we eliminate the challenge of crossing the 5% threshold. We have the people, policies and the passion to do it,” says Mr Lewis.

The party is presently setting up headquarters at ‘the Hub’ in Mangere East, which will be its base of operation over the next 12 months. They plan to formally open the office in early December.

The party has earmarked local man, Jerry FILIPAINA, as their candidate for Mangere. FILIPAINA is brother to Mangere city councillor, Alf Filipaina, and former Kiwi Rugby League icon, Olsen Filipaina. Richard Lewis and Paul Adams will stand where they stood in 2005, namely Manukau East and East Coast Bays respectively.

“We are convinced that the families of Mangere and South Auckland are looking for a genuine alternative to Labour. And while we acknowledge the Labour of former times that carried the traditional values of this constituency, everyone knows the Labour of today is a very different political animal,” Lewis said.

Elaborating further, Paul Adams says The Family Party will offer New Zealanders a pro-family political vehicle they can call their own. “Our strategy starts with the people of Mangere, whom we believe will be pivotal in bringing much needed change to our country. Previous governments have failed to value or recognise the real benefit of building and strengthening our families and this must change,” he said.

The party also plans to launch its official website www.thefamilyparty.org.nz in early December, which will form the basis of its nationwide campaign.
