Man Charged Over Incident Involving Child

Christchurch Police have charged James Mason a 49 year old male with two counts of assault on a child. The charges arise from an incident involving Mason and his two children on the Bridge of Remembrance on 19 December 2007.

Mason has been summonsed to appear in the Christchurch District Court on 12 February 2008.

Inspector Knowles, the Central City Area Commander, stated that charges arose as a result of a review of the evidence after speaking to a number of witnesses.

Inspector Knowles also stated that whilst there have been a number of comments in the media in relation to this incident, now that the matter is before the court no further comment will be made.
