Schools Demonstrate Silver Status

World Environment Day approaching, good time for schools to publicise environmental sustainability

Enviroschools Canterbury are providing six schools in Christchurch, Ashburton and Lincoln with a sign for the front of their grounds to celebrate their “silver” Enviroschools status.

“With World Environment Day on Thursday June 5, many schools are organising activities around that day,” says Andrea Creighton, Enviroschools co-ordinator. “By putting up signs at the six local schools which acknowledge the work and ongoing commitment they are making to environmental sustainability, we are providing an ongoing reminder to parents and people who visit or pass by these schools of the excellent work they are doing.

“It’s a well-deserved pat on the back for the pupils driving sustainability. Enviroschools starts at the bronze level and works through silver to green-gold, with school pupils progressively building a more sustainable environment for themselves and their wider school community. Silver is an excellent achievement and shows a significant commitment to sustainability principles,” she says.
