“But what about the drugs, Ross?”

So Ross Bell of the NZ Drug Foundation welcomes the PM's entry into the debate about the proliferation of liquor outlets in our communities. Why is the NZ Drug Foundation not as enthusiastic about dealing with the proliferation of illicit drug users in NZ?

They may well support Anderton's contention that alcohol and tobacco kill more people than P – but how many decades has it taken for that conclusion to be reached?

P may not have many deaths to its credit – yet – but many of its Users are walking around Brain Impaired, and becoming the criminals who are swamping our already overloaded Court Systems.

P users are destroying our families; their children are at risk because CYF is reluctant to remove them from a potentially dangerous environment until after the damage has been done, and Grandparents' fears are unheeded because Grandparents have no Rights in these matters.

Millions are poured into apprehending drug Dealers and Manufacturers, with no deterrants for the drug user other than legislation making its use illegal, which is unenforced – or unenforceable by Police.

The Government now allows hard-hitting ads on our TV's to help deter alcohol and tobacco users – but the NZ Drug Foundation has vetoed the use of similarly graphic ads about drug use.

This Government has made P an illicit drug, while at the same time funding brochures which detail 8 ways P can be used 'safely', under the guise of Harm Minimisation.

The Drug Foundation is urging the Prime Minister and other political leaders to stay involved in this (alcohol) debate. “To do so demonstrates they recognise how important this issue is to people.”

These leaders also need to recognise how important the P issue is to people, and give NZ families the help they need to intervene in P use.

Surely the wars on Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug abuse should be fought together.
