Taxpayers 'enabling' drug users to continue drug abuse
It has been revealed that our
taxes are paying for drug users to stay at home and fry
their brains, while we go out to work to provide them with
an income which allows them to continue to purchase these
drugs.
Data released under the Official Information Act show there are 2540 beneficiaries who have drug abuse listed as their primary reason for being unable to work - almost twice the 1297 listed in 2004 – and they are not compelled to receive treatment. This escalating problem is estimated to cost taxpayers more that $1 million a week.
This is the legacy of the Labour Party's Harm Minimisation policy.
Treatment is available for drug users, but they have to agree to receive it. Obviously it's much easier not to – they like their lifestyle - and so we taxpayers pay.
Until compulsory intervention of drug use is introduced, we taxpayers will continue to divert money which could be used to reduce hospital and Court waiting lists and provide road maintenance, into keeping these people in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
Fight Against P is actively campaigning to have early intervention of drug use at family request, for Government to spend the millions on the ambulance at the top of the cliff instead of at the bottom, and to rehabilitate drug users back to become contributing members of society.
