National to hold its 72nd Annual Conference

The New Zealand National Party will hold its 72nd Annual Conference in Wellington this weekend.

National Party President Judy Kirk says it is a chance for the entire Party to come together and focus its attention on the up-coming general election.

"Our conference has been planned with the election in mind; specifically running a grass-root campaign to maximise National's Party Vote and deliver fresh leadership for New Zealand.

The conference will showcase some of National's sound policies through various forums. The Party's diverse and talented line-up of candidates will be introduced and delegates will have the opportunity to take part in campaign and policy workshops. The conference highlight will be the address of Leader John Key on Sunday morning.

Mrs Kirk said that the Party was in good spirits and was going into the Election in a very strong position but her message to delegates would be clear "our job is not yet complete".

"The mood of the Party is one of excitement. The feeling around the country is that it is time for a change. The Party as a whole has worked extremely hard to be in the solid position it is but the hard work is not over. The Election is not a forgone conclusion and we must not take anything for granted or become complacent."

The National Party is expecting a record turn-out of almost 700 attendees, which Mrs Kirk says clearly reflects the mood of optimism within the Party.
