Political Heavyweights To Go Head To Head In Christchurch

A Christchurch law firm has achieved a pre-election coup, bringing together the respective financial heavyweights of the two major political parties to contest their policies in front of a business audience, with proceeds going to fight child abuse.

Michael Cullen and Bill English will go head to head outlining their views on the future of the New Zealand economy at a pre-election charity business lunch next month, hosted by Duncan Cotterill Lawyers.

Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce chief executive Peter Townsend will chair the lunch. He says it should be a pre-election landmark and will give Canterbury business people a rare opportunity to take part in some old-fashioned electioneering.

“It is not often these days that senior politicians go head to head, particularly not this close to an election. Michael Cullen and Bill English are vying for the post of Minister of Finance in the next government. One or other of them will get the job. This promises to be one of the defining events of the election campaign,” he said.

The Duncan Cotterill Business Lunch is on Friday 19 September from 12.30pm – 3.15pm at Rydges Hotel. Cost, including a three course lunch and beverages, is $95 per head or $850 for a table of ten.

Proceeds will go to the Family Help Trust, which provides child abuse prevention services to families with vulnerable infants in Canterbury.
