Strong Interest in Returned Medals
Good crowds were experienced by the QEII Army Memorial Museum over Labour Weekend with almost 1500 visitors making the trip to Waiouru over the three days.
Visitors expressed strong interest in seeing New Zealand’s medals of valour in honour with many making a special trip to the Museum to do so. The medals are housed in a newly built Valour Alcove at the Museum.
The medals were returned last Tuesday in a moving ceremony attended by over 80 family members of the original medal recipients.
The Museum’s Director, Colonel Ray Seymour, said staff are delighted to have New Zealand’s treasures and taonga back in their place of honour and on public display in this memorial museum.
Colonel Seymour said he wanted to extend a “big thank you” to all the people who supported the museum and have sent many messages of support over the last week.
