OUT IN FORCE FOR PACK THE BUS APPEAL

Teddy bears, books, toys, Christmas cakes, tinned fruit and chocolate biscuits were among the many donations given this week by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF), Ministry of Defence and Government Communications Securities Bureau (GCSB) personnel to Wellington City Mission’s annual Pack the Bus Christmas appeal.

NZDF Business Programmes Manager Deborah Mulliss said, “This is the third year we have collected donations for the appeal. Having a joint NZDF, Ministry and GCSB effort meant that more people were involved and support has certainly been enthusiastic with some individuals being especially generous.”

Over the past two weeks a decorated Go Wellington bus has traveled around Wellington picking up donated foodstuffs, books and children’s toys.

“It really makes you feel Christmasy to be able to give to those less fortunate than ourselves,” said Sub Lieutenant Elizabeth Lewer.

“We have had a fantastic response to this year’s The Breeze and Go Wellington ‘Pack the Bus’ appeal,” said Father Des Britten, Wellington City Missioner.

“The wonderful generosity of the New Zealand Defence Force and all Wellingtonians in helping those struggling to cope this Christmas will make sure that Christmas Day is a day of joy, happiness and one to remember.“
