A 13-year-old student who ran away from relatives in Waitara, Taranaki, last Friday has this afternoon been found safe and well in Wanganui.

Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr, Masterton Police, said Sharmayne Carrington was found by Wanganui police this afternoon.

"We're not too sure yet why she ran away. The important thing is that she's been found, she's well and her parents in Masterton and other family members in Taranaki have been advised."
