Have Your Say On The Second Treaty Debate At Te Papa, Thursday 5 February
This year’s second Treaty Debate will be broadcast live on Te Papa’s website from 6.30pm, Thursday 5 February. The debate will be held in Soundings Theatre on Level 2 at Te Papa (free admission). People who are unable to attend the debate are invited to participate virtually via a chat window, or by posting questions in advance to Te Papa’s blog, http://blog.tepapa.govt.nz/2009/02/02/treaty-debate-the-maori-seats-in-parliament/.
In this session, constitutional law expert Professor Philip Joseph and broadcaster Derek Fox will give their views on the role of Mäori in government, and the future of the Mäori seats. Members of the public can contribute their opinions on the issues as the debate happens, using a chat window on this site, www.tepapa.govt.nz/treatydebates. Staff will endeavour to ask as many questions as possible during question time following the debate.
The Treaty Debates are recorded by Radio New Zealand National so latecomers to Soundings Theatre will not be admitted. Radio New Zealand National will broadcast the debate on Sunday 8 February after the 4pm news and again on Tuesday 10 February after the 9pm news bulletin.
The Treaty Debates are organised by Te Papa in partnership with the New Zealand Centre for Public Law at Victoria University of Wellington.
