Ak City Council pay should be subject to negs

PSA MEDIA RELEASE

Auckland City Council pay should be subject to negotiation

The Public Service Association says pay for Auckland City Council staff should be subject to negotiation with the staff and their union.

More than 500 staff at the Auckland City Council belong to the PSA.

“We do not agree with the council unilaterally announcing that it’s freezing its staff’s pay,” says PSA National Secretary Richard Wagstaff.

“We’re due to negotiate a collective agreement covering the union’s members at the council later in the year.”

“We think those negotiations are the right forum to discuss the pay and working conditions for those council staff.”

“There are many issues to discuss in the current economic environment and we think that good faith negotiations are the place to have that discussion,” says Richard Wagstaff.
