Wellington Tamil Society Memorial Service

Media Release

Wellington Tamil Society Memorial Service

On Sunday 24th May Wellington Tamils are gathering together to mourn the deaths of the many thousands of Tamils recently killed in northern Sri Lanka.

Over the past few months, and particularly over the past few days, countless thousands of Tamils have been killed. In that total are the family and friends of Wellington Tamil Society. Every part of the Tamil community in northern Sri Lanka has been decimated – from the elderly dying of starvation through to unborn babies dying of shrapnel wounds.

Wellington Tamils need to acknowledge and to mourn this unimaginable loss of life before the future can be contemplated. Our thoughts will also be going out to the hundreds of thousands interned in detention camps and the thousands more lying wounded in the conflict zone without any medical treatment.

The service will commence with a Hindu and Christian prayer followed by words from the community and an opportunity for all to share their thoughts and feelings.

All are welcome to attend.
